The Hudson Valley duo creates sparse, intimate songs from voice, guitar and synth, moving through the outer edges of folk and singer-songwriter traditions.
Cut Chord, the Hudson Valley duo of Kristen Lembo and Conor Klein, released their debut EP, Demolition Music, on July 29, 2026. Built around voice, guitar and synth, the project moves through the outer edges of folk, drone, psychedelia and singer-songwriter traditions without settling comfortably into any one of them. Lembo’s writing takes the form of gritty, fragmented poetry, exploring the pain and beauty of connection and modern life, while her voice can shift between strength, vulnerability and emotional distance. Klein’s guitar brings together folk fingerpicking with muddy chords, somber drone and off-kilter scales, weaving melody, tension and psychedelic rhythm into meandering structures that unfold at their own pace.
The five-track Demolition Music includes “Lo-fi Dissent”, “Sailing into the Void”, “Unfurling”, “Rip Cord” and “Undone Things”. The EP grows out of the collaboration Lembo and Klein began in Brooklyn in 2021, writing and playing together for the joy of it. Slide guitar, bass, percussion and subtle instrumentation expand the arrangements without disrupting their intimate core, while the production retains an organic, present and slightly raw quality. The project’s press materials describe the resulting music as intimate and often unexpected, with a lingering quality that keeps the songs close after listening. Lembo handles voice, synth and lyrics, Klein contributes guitar, bass and percussion, and Alex P. Wernquest handled mixing and mastering.
