The Ukrainian-rooted duo blend ancestral songs, contemporary perspectives and powerful storytelling on their first full-length release.
DIVKA have released folk fatale, their debut album, a collection that reinterprets traditional songs created and carried by women across generations. Formed by Alina Kytasty Kuzma and Zoë Santo, the duo combines bandura, viola and ethereal vocal harmonies to create a sound rooted in folklore while embracing a modern artistic vision. Through these songs, DIVKA explore themes of desire, freedom, resilience, humour and feminine power, transforming historical narratives into something urgent and contemporary.
Across folk fatale, the duo moves between celebrations of nature, stories of love and attraction, and reflections on war, inequality and cultural survival. The album arrives alongside an extensive tour across Ontario and Western Canada beginning on July 7 in Toronto, introducing audiences to a project that revives folk traditions while giving them renewed relevance through bold reinterpretation and captivating live performances.
