The transformation behind “2bd af” happens before the track is even heard: DANCB changed the purpose of its own music after the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Originally conceived as a space for creating redemptive and uplifting soundtracks, the project moves here into much darker territory, shaped by the rise of the far right and the possibility of a future defined by that political shift. The result does not seek comfort. It records an emotional response to a reality perceived as threatening.
The track does not attempt to explain the political event or build a conventional narrative around it. Its impulse is more immediate: to express the thoughts and feelings produced by witnessing it. Unease, fear, frustration, anger, and restlessness occupy a piece that deliberately refuses to be comfortable or easily accessible. That discomfort becomes part of its conceptual weight. Music is no longer being used as a way out, but as a means of confronting what generates fear.
An architecture of tension
Drawing from Experimental Electronic, IDM, and Glitch, “2bd af” creates a dystopian atmosphere built around tension and abstraction. Fragmented glitch textures and the electronic character of IDM contribute to a sense of instability, while the experimental approach allows sound to operate less like a conventional song structure and more like an emotional environment. The darkness is not merely aesthetic. It is directly connected to the state of mind that brought the piece into existence.
Sound as a record of change
The central narrative element of “2bd af” lies in DANCB’s own transformation. The electronic music that once sought redemption and elevation now confronts a reality that would be easier to escape. That shift turns the dystopian atmosphere into an image of an uncertain future: a space where stability seems constantly interrupted and sound no longer promises an exit. “2bd af” documents, through electronic abstraction, the moment when making music also becomes a way of processing something impossible to ignore.
