Avery Dakin Releases “Friday”, a Celebration of Life’s Small Moments

The Canadian artist turns a sunny afternoon, friendship, and the desire to step away from the workweek into a warm R&B/pop track shaped by ’70s soul.

Avery Dakin shares “Friday”, a summery single written with her friends Jade Bennett and Moira Bren around a simple idea: stepping away from obligations for a few hours and enjoying a sunny afternoon with the people we love. The song was written during a February songwriter’s retreat, when the three artists found themselves dreaming about bright Fridays when they could leave work early and find a patio to spend time together. “Friday” transforms that everyday fantasy into a carefree, sun-soaked track, with Dakin, Bennett, and Bren’s voices melting together and circling the refrain like a playful conversation between friends. The production was designed to carry the warmth of both sunshine and companionship, drawing from ’70s soul alongside elements of 2000s R&B and pop.

At its heart, “Friday” is less about simply skipping work than about making room for the small experiences that give a day its meaning: walking around the block, stopping to talk with a neighbour, sitting in the sun with a friend, or simply remaining open to whatever the day might bring. That sensibility reflects Avery Dakin’s broader musical world, where vintage influences meet ethereal vocals and lush instrumentation within a sun-kissed R&B/pop approach. With Music Nova Scotia and East Coast Music Award nominations, an NACC-charting debut album Bloom, and national touring experience, Dakin has established a songwriting style recognized for lyrical introspection and rich musical textures. Her sophomore project, Kismet, is scheduled for 2027. Within that trajectory, “Friday” offers a particularly bright snapshot of her perspective: a reminder that stepping away from routine, sharing time with others, and allowing space for the unexpected can be meaningful parts of everyday life.
