willoh – “CU” | Nostalgia for an identity in transition

A fragile guitar picking opens “CU” with an almost deceptive delicacy. willoh allows that first texture to remain suspended before introducing hypnotic beats, darker layers, and a series of ruptures that eventually push the track into a glitch-heavy breakdown. Its sonic evolution does not lead toward a clear resolution; instead, it keeps the listener inside a sense of instability that becomes essential to understanding the forthcoming EP BUCK.

The lyrics look toward an earlier version of the self with an uneasy mixture of longing and distance. “I just wanna see you” sounds like a request for reunion, but also like an attempt to recover something that may no longer exist. Nostalgia is not presented as a reliable memory either: there is an awareness that what now seems desirable was also marked by pain and disconnection. The past can easily become an edited version of itself.

Alternative rock between beauty and dissonance

Moving between alt-rock and alt-pop, willoh uses guitars, beats, and digital textures to keep that contradiction unresolved. The enveloping passages have an almost seductive quality, while dissonant elements introduce enough discomfort to prevent them from becoming too comfortable. The final breakdown disrupts whatever balance has formed and pushes the track into more experimental territory.

Returning without going back

The reference to the “hive mind” adds another layer to the search for identity: distinguishing what we genuinely want from what we have learned to pursue. “CU” does not resolve that distinction. Its strongest quality lies in making the structure itself seem uncertain, like someone trying to move forward while still looking back.
