Lisa Michelle Anderson – “Spend a Little Time” | A goodbye that still travels with you

The landscape moves beyond the window while “Spend a Little Time” revisits a conversation that never quite disappeared. Lisa Michelle Anderson turns a road, a moon, and an old song on the radio into the setting for a story about what we leave behind and the questions that emerge once a decision can no longer be changed. Johnny Irion’s guitar establishes a warm sense of motion from the opening, allowing memory to unfold without becoming overly dramatic.

The central question is not simply what might have happened with a little more time, but whether loving someone can also mean allowing them to leave. “Follow your dreams” captures that contradiction: the person left behind does not try to stop the departure, but helps make it possible. The memory therefore feels less like pure regret than gratitude, even as the possibility of another life remains unresolved.

Folk-pop with a road-song pulse

Moving between singer-songwriter, folk-pop, and power pop, the track finds its balance in organic, melodic instrumentation. Irion’s riff carries a relaxed groove while Anderson keeps the narrative in the foreground. The arrangement avoids overstating the emotion, leaving room for each image to register.

The road keeps moving

The desert, buffalo, Emmylou Harris playing on the radio, and the moon create a journey that is both physical and emotional. The car becomes an in-between space separating the past from whatever comes next. That is where “Spend a Little Time” finds its strongest quality: moving forward does not mean forgetting, and some goodbyes can keep traveling with us long after they happen.
