Plain Mister Smith releases Bric-a-Brac attack, an eclectic album of indie folk, pop and introspection

The Canadian multi-instrumentalist releases his sophomore album via Amelia Records, bringing together nine songs shaped by atmospheric soundscapes, collaboration and reflective songwriting.

Plain Mister Smith releases Bric-a-Brac attack, his sophomore studio album, out August 7, 2026 via Amelia Records. The nine-track collection expands the Canadian musician’s distinctive world through indie-folk landscapes, pop elements, atmospheric textures, and songwriting that balances introspection with an understated sense of wit and narrative. The album finds one of its defining entry points in “Grindavik,” where bright acoustic guitars, steady drum rhythms, and guest appearances from Jordan Klassen and Kitt frame a song inspired by Iceland’s volcanic landscape and the fractures of a relationship. Around it, tracks such as “Miss Sunshine,” “Andy Warhol,” “Dream Gigantic,” and “Dream to be Free” broaden the album’s sonic and emotional palette.

Rather than following a single formula, Bric-a-Brac attack is shaped by the range of influences and collaborations running throughout the project. Findlay Brown, Leeroy Stagger, Krystle Dos Santos, Tyson Mostenbocher, Jordan Klassen, and Kitt contribute across different tracks, adding new voices and textures while maintaining a cohesive identity. Based between Vancouver and London, Plain Mister Smith brings to the album a background that includes his time as guitarist for Canadian darkwave band Moev and his work as a cellist with the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra. With Bric-a-Brac attack, he continues to develop a singular musical universe where songwriting becomes a meeting point for the everyday, the strange, and the deeply personal.
