The collaborative duo returns with an immersive ambient work shaped by live improvisation, drones, and evolving sonic landscapes.
Abul Mogard and Rafael Anton Irisarri return with Where Light Pauses in the Silence of the Sun, their second collaborative album and a profound exploration of ambient, drone, and experimental composition. Developed from a three-day residency at Berlin’s Morphine Raum in spring 2025, the record originated through live performances that were later reshaped and expanded in the studio. Built from modular synthesizers, rotary speakers, bowed guitar, and layered electronic textures, the album unfolds as a deeply immersive listening experience that blurs the boundaries between acoustic and electronic sound.
Across six expansive pieces, the album moves between monumental low-frequency currents, meditative string arrangements, and slowly evolving harmonic structures. Contributions from cellist Martina Bertoni and violinist Andrea Burelli add warmth and resonance to the project, enriching its emotional depth while reinforcing its cinematic scope. Following the acclaimed Impossibly Distant, Impossibly Close, the new release further strengthens the artistic dialogue between Mogard and Irisarri, presenting a work that balances fragility and permanence through meticulous sound design and patient, transformative composition.
