Kyary Pamyu Pamyu Marks 15 Years with “Pang Pang Pang,” a New Kawaii Pop Single

Produced by Yasutaka Nakata, the electronic track serves as the ending theme for Pan Dorobo and revisits the visual spirit of her breakthrough hit “PONPONPON.”

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu celebrates 15 years as an artist with “Pang Pang Pang,” a new electronic pop single produced by Yasutaka Nakata and released through ASOBISYSTEM. Written as the ending theme for the anime Pan Dorobo, based on a picture-book series that has sold more than 5.5 million copies in Japan, the track builds its playful character around a repetitive hook and punchy, addictive beats. The release arrives with a music video directed by Jun Tamukai, a longtime creative collaborator who has worked with Kyary since her debut. Set in a colorful retro kitchen, the video follows the singer and her whimsical co-star Kiji-kun, also known as Dough Boy, as they make bread and perform synchronized choreography. The result blends comedy, surreal imagery, and the picture-book aesthetic that has long been part of Kyary’s visual world.

The video also contains a tribute to “PONPONPON,” the 2011 release that launched Kyary’s music career and helped establish her as one of the defining figures of Harajuku’s kawaii culture. “Pang Pang Pang” marks the seventeenth collaboration between the artist and Tamukai, continuing their shared interest in turning everyday situations into playful, unexpected spectacles. Kyary began her career in Harajuku’s street-fashion scene as a model and blogger before joining forces with Nakata. Since then, she has completed five world tours and performed on Coachella’s Gobi stage across both weekends in 2022. Following recent releases including “KURU KURU HARAJUKU,” “Focus Focus,” and “Tsukihime,” the new single points toward her next chapter, with a sixth studio album planned for 2027.
