The American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist turns frustration with political and social realities into an ironic, cathartic song featured on a record that also includes Alex Lifeson.

Maiah Wynne has released the video and single “Girl Dinner”, one of the 12 tracks on her new album Into the Waves. Through a tongue-in-cheek approach, the song responds to the frustration of witnessing global suffering, war, and the influence of money on political decisions. Wynne describes it as a protest song with a sharp sense of humour, offering a way to release the emotions that emerge when the world feels overwhelming. The track also draws on her experience performing it live, where audiences singing along transformed it into a shared moment of catharsis. With its official release, Wynne hopes to bring that same feeling to listeners, using music as a way to reconnect in an increasingly divided world.

Written, self-produced, and largely recorded by Wynne during a transformative period that included her first international tour, a move abroad, and a return to education, Into the Waves captures an artist navigating major personal changes. Many of the recordings were made in hotel rooms using a laptop, with Wynne playing more than a dozen instruments across the album. The project was completed with mixing and additional production by Justin Abel and mastering by Alan Douches. Its collaborators include cellist Bethany Joyce, violinist Avelyn Reynolds, guitarist Brooks Berg, and Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson, among others. With “Girl Dinner”, Wynne offers a glimpse into an album that channels personal experiences and collective concerns into music. Into the Waves is available digitally and on CD, with a vinyl edition scheduled for October 30.
