joe and the sun – “about you, about time – Version 2” | When Stopping the Wait Becomes Freedom

“Hold on, holding for too long” immediately establishes the exhaustion of a relationship that has remained suspended for too long. In “about you, about time – Version 2,” joe and the sun revisits that waiting through suspicion, broken promises, and the feeling of having invested emotionally only to end up empty-handed. When a hidden truth is finally discovered “red handed,” uncertainty turns into confrontation.

The song also captures an internal shift. “How long has all of this been happening?” expresses the need to understand, but the emotional answer comes afterward: “I don’t want to know.” Giving up the search for explanations becomes a way of reclaiming control. The final “I don’t care about you” does not erase what happened, but establishes a new distance from something that once demanded answers.

More Weight for a Story of Disillusionment

The second version expands the song through a fuller instrumentation, moving between lo-fi rock, Brazilian progressive rock, and folk rock. Its added depth follows the emotional movement of the lyrics, carrying the composition from uncertainty toward a more direct confrontation.

The Moment of Looking Forward

“About you, about time” does not frame detachment as an absence of feeling, but as the result of having carried those feelings too far. Ending up “empty handed” represents the cost of remaining inside a relationship sustained by promises that never materialized. Version 2 finds its resolution when the narrator no longer needs every answer and decides that moving forward matters more than knowing everything.
