Written on guitar while sitting beneath her favorite tree in London, “LHF.” turns Sylva Faye’s experience of being falsely accused into a gradual movement toward vindication. The title, short for “Low Hanging Fruit,” holds a particular place within her latest EP, while the song’s two-part structure allows its emotional tension to move from exhaustion and defense toward a renewed sense of freedom.
The personal experience gradually expands into a wider sensitivity toward vulnerability. “Birds in cages,” teenagers, dead plants and absent people transform individual pain into a meditation on loss and empathy. Fire becomes an image of survival: even while frozen, lost and lacking the strength to keep the flame alive, the narrator continues searching for something that might reignite it. Vindication does not turn the past into a permanent defeat. Surviving the experience also means rebuilding trust in one’s own account and beginning to leave fear behind.
Guitar, cello and room to breathe
Rooted in Folk, Acoustic Folk and Neofolk, the track is built entirely from real instruments. Guitar provides its compositional center, while flute, piano and synthesizer broaden the texture; Dave Dhonau’s cello adds emotional weight. The darker verses are offset by lightly picked guitar passages that create small spaces of relief, allowing release to emerge gradually.
The wind as movement
Caged birds embody lost freedom, while swans moving against the wind introduce another image of resistance. By the end, “my colours fly in the wind” changes the meaning of that force: the wind is no longer only pressure, but something capable of carrying what has been reclaimed outward. Freedom ultimately becomes movement.
