The message has not been sent yet, but the regret is already forming in his head. “Regret” turns that late-night impulse into a rush where alcohol, nostalgia and desire compete with common sense. Boy Apocalypse and Nightly Gatherings build the track around a decision the protagonist knows he will probably regret, yet chooses to stand behind for the next ten minutes. That contradiction gives the song its direction: trying to recover intimacy while knowing it may only survive for one night.
The phone becomes an extension of that anxiety. Writing, deleting, rewriting and asking whether the other person still misses you turns desire into an immediate wait for an answer. The recurring ten-minute window captures a precise emotional temporality: nobody is promising forever, only trying to stretch a moment both people know is temporary. Regret is therefore not presented as a moral lesson, but as part of the same impulse that creates excitement and vulnerability.
Electronic euphoria for a bad decision
Electro Pop, Hyperpop and Electroclash collide through distorted synths, rough-edged bass and immediate hooks. The production keeps enough abrasion to prevent the euphoria from becoming completely bright, allowing pleasure and loss of control to occupy the same pulse.
Desire knows it has an expiration date
The question of what might happen over the next thirty minutes reveals more than any promise about the future. “Regret” treats impulsiveness as an emotional negotiation, with desire reaching for permanence inside a situation built to disappear. Its strength comes from letting both truths coexist: wanting to stay while already knowing there may be something to regret in the morning.
