Irish Millie Shares Can You See Me?, an Album About Finding Your Place

The Canadian folk artist turns neurodivergence, love, grief and self-discovery into a cinematic folk-pop world led by “Boy At My Funeral.”

Irish Millie has spent much of her life transforming the way she experiences the world into music, and Can You See Me? brings that instinct into its most ambitious form yet. The Peterborough, Ontario singer, songwriter and fiddler’s new seven-track album follows a young woman who grows up feeling like an outsider, eventually turning that sense of difference into what Millie describes as her “inner cinema,” a space where sound, colour and storytelling intersect. Across the record, that world moves through love, grief and self-doubt toward something resembling peace. “Boy At My Funeral,” featuring Marshall Pula, represents one of the album’s most dramatic turns, framing overwhelming love and uncertainty through a sweeping, cinematic production.

The track began as a stripped-back folk demo built around acoustic guitar before evolving into a larger pop-rock arrangement through the contributions of the collaborators involved. Pula’s largely unplanned harmonies add a haunting counterpoint, transforming the song into an exchange between two voices. Millie’s musical foundation reaches back to childhood and her immersion in Celtic fiddle traditions, while her direct, deeply personal songwriting has become the centre of her artistic identity. A seven-time Canadian Folk Music Award nominee, she has also earned recognition throughout 2026, including the Robinson Emerging Artist Award and selection as a North2North Breakthrough Artist, which took her to Sweden to perform at Lilla By Festivalen. With Can You See Me? now available, Millie turns the qualities that once made her feel out of step into the foundation of an increasingly distinctive musical voice.
