Alvie & the Breakfast Pigs – “We Want Change” | Protest rock turning exhaustion into resistance

Exhaustion can become a form of resistance when it refuses to remain silent. “We Want Change” begins from that tension: a society watching inequality and violence repeat until frustration becomes a collective demand. Inspired by the protests that followed the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and many others, the song asks how long injustice can continue before the need to act becomes impossible to ignore.

“All we really want is change” works as a direct collective chant. The song insists on remembering those who have died while questioning structures of authority that allow violence to continue. “Again and again” turns repetition into evidence of exhaustion, while “STOP, let’s march forward” marks the moment when reflection becomes movement. Falling, being pushed down and standing again creates an image of resistance that connects memory with action. Anger, sadness and frustration do not disappear; they are transformed into determination.

From Restraint to Confrontation

Hard rock, alternative rock and shoegaze converge in a structure that follows the song’s emotional progression. A slower opening establishes a sense of exhaustion before giving way to heavier riffs and a more expansive performance. Hard rock provides the confrontational force, while alternative rock and shoegaze introduce a more atmospheric dimension.

A Chant That Demands Memory

“Stand” becomes one of the song’s central ideas: resisting after being pushed down. Marching represents both physical movement and political decision, while naming those who died prevents their stories from becoming mere statistics. “We Want Change” turns exhaustion into action and repeated violence into a reason to keep demanding transformation.
