Zepet – “Hasta Siempre y Después” | Indie pop about loving across distance

“Hasta Siempre y Después” turns a story of distance into a declaration of permanence. Zepet’s first release written entirely in Spanish, the song grew out of the long-distance relationship he shared with the woman who would eventually become his wife, while he was living in Argentina and she was in England. After months separated by screens and time zones, their reunion ultimately became a life together. Written for her and shared during their honeymoon, the song transforms that experience into a piece of indie pop, indie rock, and alt pop where nostalgia exists alongside the hope of staying together.

The lyrics approach absence from an intimate perspective. When the loved one leaves, her voice, songs, and memories fill the space left behind. Yet the song does not remain in loss; instead, it focuses on the desire for distance not to become uncertainty once again. The title captures that tension: “Hasta siempre” suggests permanence, while “y después” acknowledges the future that still remains to be lived.

Between nostalgia and permanence

“Hasta Siempre y Después” carries love, vulnerability, nostalgia, and hope, transforming a deeply personal experience into something relatable for anyone who has experienced a long-distance relationship or periods of separation.

A song about finding light

Indie pop, indie rock, and alt pop provide the foundation for a confessional and melodic composition, with references ranging from The 1975 to Bandalos Chinos and Dayglow. The image of light filtering through “cracks and breaks” captures the song’s perspective: difficulties may remain, but they do not necessarily prevent two people from building something together.
