Kohla – “Holy” | When Love Takes on a Sacred Dimension

“Holy” borrows the language of faith to describe something deeply earthly: the certainty of finding someone whose presence makes trust, happiness, and fulfillment feel larger than ordinary experience. Drawing from the spiritual hymns of her childhood in church, Kohla reshapes that vocabulary into a romantic world where the beloved becomes almost sacred. Prayer, heaven, worship, and faith are not presented as doctrine, but as ways of articulating emotional surrender.

Vulnerability remains central to that idea. Even when personal faith may be “falling,” there is still confidence that this person will remain present. By the final stretch, that connection extends beyond life itself, turning love into a possibility of permanence while retaining the excitement and intimacy that define the relationship.

Hyper-contemporary gospel with cinematic sensitivity

Sitting between alternative/indie R&B, alt pop, and adult contemporary, “Holy” combines ethnic-inspired synthesizer samples, acoustic instrumentation, and layered backing vocals. Gospel influences meet the soul energy of Jackie Wilson and the expressive character associated with Elton John, resulting in a contemporary song where melody and vocals carry much of its emotional weight. The communal affirmation of gospel is redirected toward an intimate love story.

When the Sacred Can Also Be Human

The contrast between religious imagery and sensual details such as “glitter on my body” brings the spiritual and physical into the same space. That tension gives “Holy” one of its most compelling dimensions: love can feel extraordinary because it changes how an ordinary human connection is perceived. Kohla transforms the spiritual language of her childhood into a vocabulary for a relationship whose intensity seems to demand something larger than everyday words.
