Federale – “Fear Naught” | Facing Fear to Reclaim Control of the Future

The fear of losing what we have spent years building can completely change how we see the future. In “Fear Naught,” Federale turns that uncertainty into a declaration of resilience, inspired by a particularly vulnerable moment for founder Collin Hegna, who faced the possibility of losing Revolver Studios, his workspace and creative headquarters.

Images of circling vultures, the devil at the door, and rising waters threatening to reclaim the land represent different forms of danger. Yet the repeated line “I fear nothing, nothing anymore” does not deny those threats; it expresses a decision to stop living under their control.

Between spaghetti western and dark wave

The song combines Federale’s signature cinematic guitars with a dark wave atmosphere, Prophet-5 synthesizers, and expansive guitar textures. The result connects European film scores from the 1960s and 1970s with post-punk and new wave, while Hegna’s baritone vocals reinforce its solemn, almost ceremonial character.

A statement in the face of adversity

Rather than presenting strength as the absence of fear, “Fear Naught” finds it in the ability to acknowledge what threatens our sense of certainty and confront it. As part of Love & Other Lies, the composition reveals a more personal side of Federale, transforming the band’s familiar cinematic imagery into a way of processing real experiences. It is not about denying danger, but reclaiming the ability to decide how to face it.
