MOWRI – “ENTR’ACTE” | Locking a problem away doesn’t solve it

The easiest solution is not always the least costly; sometimes, it simply hides the consequences. On “ENTR’ACTE,” MOWRI takes aim at the American prison system and an institutional logic that would rather push social problems out of sight than understand them. The repeated phrase “Less conscience, less effort, less empathy” becomes an indictment of structures that reduce human dignity to a matter of convenience.

Expressions of exhaustion, including “I’m tired,” bring a personal dimension to the critique. Incarceration is presented alongside economic interests, exclusion, and a collective indifference that allows injustice to continue beyond public view. The work challenges both the institutions responsible and a society that can grow accustomed to their consequences.

Experimental electronics for a critique that persists

Working within experimental electronics, MOWRI uses repetition as a conceptual principle in a piece originally commissioned for outdoor dance performances. The insistent language mirrors the bureaucratic logic under scrutiny: less effort and empathy alongside growing profits and human costs. Music and performance become vehicles for direct social criticism.

Indifference is part of the system, too

“ENTR’ACTE” suggests that hiding injustice does not make it disappear. MOWRI confronts listeners with an uncomfortable question: how much does our own indifference help sustain the very things we claim to reject?
