Eventually Flowers – “As You Grow” | Indie rock and the contradictions of human nature

Growing up means discovering that people rarely fit into the categories we use to understand them. On “As You Grow,” Eventually Flowers turns a personal experience from Tom Gluewicki, known as Tender Glue, into a reflection on moral complexity and the limits of judgment. Written more than a decade ago, the song recalls an uncle who saved his life during a snowstorm despite having a questionable past. That contradiction becomes the starting point for reconsidering how well we truly know others.

The lines “In every evil there’s some good” and “In every good there’s some evil” capture this perspective without suggesting that harmful actions should be excused. Maturity means acknowledging that generosity and cruelty can coexist in the same person while retaining the ability to judge the consequences of their choices. Rather than offering definitive answers, the song encourages a more nuanced understanding of human relationships.

Indie rock for living with uncertainty

Drawing on indie rock, indie pop, and modern progressive rock, the track adopts a contemplative character that complements its introspective writing. Although specific instrumental and production details are unavailable, its relaxed mood provides a counterpoint to the complexity of its central questions.

Growth begins with questioning ourselves

“World won’t change if you stay the same” introduces an active dimension to the song’s philosophy: understanding human complexity requires examining our own assumptions. Eventually Flowers frames growing up as an ongoing exercise in empathy, discernment, and openness to experiences that resist simple explanations.
