Good Vibes Rollercoaster – “I Don’t Care” | When Refusing to Fit In Becomes Freedom

“I Don’t Care” turns a personal experience into a collective statement. Inspired by Matt Walton’s experience living with ADHD, the song questions the idea that thinking differently has to be a disadvantage. Its “crazy and absurd” thoughts, references to Desperate Dan and Peter Pan, and image of living “in a bubble” create a character who refuses to reshape himself around other people’s expectations.

The repeated “I don’t care / You don’t care / They don’t care / We don’t care” feels less like absolute indifference than a decision to stop measuring identity through external judgment. Even the sequence of weekdays leading toward the weekend turns ordinary time into a small celebration, while drinking beer in the sun and “flying like a big bird” transform absurdity into lightness. Difference becomes something to embrace rather than conceal.

From Optimism to Punk

Good Vibes Rollercoaster takes its festive spirit into more direct punk and garage-rock territory. Classic punk attitude, Blondie-inspired new wave energy, and British rock sensibilities meet the project’s broader influences, spanning glam rock, alternative rock, and Britpop. The result remains positive while adopting a sharper, more guitar-driven expression.

A Mantra for Refusing to Fit In

“I Don’t Care” finds its strength in accepting a degree of confusion without treating it as something that needs to be fixed. For anyone who has felt that their way of thinking places them outside the norm, the chorus becomes a small reclaiming of autonomy. It is not about feeling less, but about no longer asking permission to be different.
