Eric Hilton and Natalia Clavier Release “Promise Me”, the First Single from The Easy Underground

The Thievery Corporation member blends bossa nova, Brazilian rhythms, and an intimate atmosphere in the first preview of his upcoming album.

Trip-hop pioneer and Thievery Corporation member Eric Hilton releases “Promise Me”, the first single from his upcoming album The Easy Underground, due November 20, 2026 via his Montserrat House label. The track features acclaimed Argentine vocalist Natalia Clavier, a longtime collaborator who appears on nine of the album’s 13 songs. “Promise Me” introduces a sound shaped by Hilton’s fascination with the elegant and cinematic music of the 1960s and ’70s, drawing on elements of bossa nova and Brazilian rhythms. The single also offers an early connection to the sonic world of Thievery Corporation’s 2013 album Saudade, while Hilton takes a more personal approach here, built around deeper grooves, greater space, and an atmosphere that avoids following an established formula.

The track belongs to an exploration Hilton calls The Easy Underground: music that can exist in the background without demanding attention, yet reveals more when approached with closer listening. His fascination with this aesthetic began in his late teens after discovering Stan Getz and Luiz Bonfá’s Jazz Samba Encore!, followed by a deeper immersion in 1960s Brazilian music and the film scores of composers including Lalo Schifrin, Sérgio Mendes, Francis Lai, and Henry Mancini. On “Promise Me”, those influences become part of a contemporary language in which Natalia Clavier’s voice takes a central role. The single offers a first glimpse into The Easy Underground, an album built around intimacy, restraint, and the ability of a melody to linger without demanding attention.
