SUUNCAAT – “the wash” | Routine as a portal into another sense of time

A laundromat may seem like an unlikely setting for a reflection on time, yet “the wash” finds its strangeness precisely there. SUUNCAAT turns a repetitive task into a space of observation, where the same bags, machines, and movements return while the person performing them never remains exactly the same. “Some things never change” becomes both mantra and paradox: the ritual repeats, but the person moving through it continues to transform. Filling, pushing, collecting, walking, and folding become more than ordinary actions; they become a way of measuring how much can change while everything appears unchanged.

The laundromat becomes a hidden portal within everyday life. The extended “on and on and on” musically reproduces the cycle, while images of small animals and the early morning add a slightly surreal dimension. The song does not try to escape monotony. Instead, it observes repetition closely enough to uncover questions about identity, perception, and time. Even washing takes on an almost mystical quality: each cycle returns things to an initial state without ever returning the same person.

Delicate electronics for a routine thrown off balance

Hyperpop and experimental pop meet electronic beats and delicate synths that prioritize atmosphere over impact. The electronic production creates an ethereal, slightly disorienting space, balancing delicacy, theatricality, and experimentation. Its repetitive structure does not simply accompany the concept—it becomes part of the concept itself.

A cycle that never returns to the same place

“the wash” turns an ordinary task into an experience of perception. The ritual remains, but identity changes with every repetition. That small contradiction transforms the laundromat into a place where something seemingly insignificant can open into a much larger question.
