Porcus vs Equus – “I’m Evolving” | Ironic Post-Punk about evolving in the wrong direction

Evolution loses its usual promise of progress on “I’m Evolving.” Porcus vs Equus turns the word into an uncomfortable provocation, looking at a world shaped by appearance, exposure and social performance, then asking what happens when adapting means becoming something worse. The song holds that contradiction between celebratory energy and a distinctly sardonic perspective.

Instructions such as “get yourselves pulled tight,” “get yourselves inside out” and “undress for one-another” turn the body into something that must be tightened, inverted and exposed to meet external expectations. Through the repeated “I’m evolving,” the idea gradually shifts: what initially sounds like growth begins to resemble an ironic acceptance of an absurd system. “The future’s appalling / I’m breaching out” pushes that discomfort toward frustration, rebellion and a lingering sense of threat.

Angular guitars against a pop melody

Post-Punk and Post-Hardcore intersect with an Art-Punk sensibility through angular guitars, dynamic bass and explosive live drums. Thick, fuzzed-out riffs meet threatening dissonance and reverberation with an almost spaghetti-western quality. Against that abrasive foundation, the pop-oriented vocal melody creates a contrast that makes the satire sharper.

Evolution does not always mean progress

The arrangement remains tightly coiled before releasing its energy in the chorus, mirroring the pressure accumulated by the lyrics. “I’m Evolving” is particularly effective because its critique never becomes overly solemn: it also leaves room to dance while everything around you starts to look increasingly absurd.
