Losing your “mojo” could be treated as a private crisis, but The Infamists turn it into a supernatural quest filled with grimoires, amulets, magical objects, and transformation. Their second single from Black Magick Carousel follows a protagonist who looks beyond himself for an explanation for the loss of confidence and magnetism. A visit to a witch and a search through occult imagery create an intentionally exaggerated fantasy, while the playful tone keeps insecurity from becoming tragedy.
The real transformation arrives when “Mojo Risin’” emerges like a phoenix from the ashes. The spell stops being the whole explanation: getting the mojo back also means breaking old habits and changing the script. What begins as a story of stagnation becomes a recovery of agency, filtered through sensuality, excess, and the mischievous energy of occult rock fantasy. The protagonist does not simply return to who he was; he comes back ready to take control of his own narrative.
Heavy Riffs Turn the Ritual into a Boogie
Stoner rock provides the song’s weight through dense riffs, while glam and classic rock amplify its theatrical character. Disco-inspired strings, synthesizers, and collective vocals expand the power-trio format, introducing a danceable dimension without softening its heaviness. The stated references to Blue Öyster Cult, Rainbow, and Castle Rat place that mixture of darkness, sensuality, and spectacle in a clear lineage, with boogie becoming the common ground.
The Mojo as a Ritual of Renewal
The amulet, magical sphere, and grimoire build a mythology around a personal crisis that ultimately reveals another meaning. The phoenix becomes the image of energy returning to its owner. The track’s strongest move is making that recovery musical as well: heavy riffs, disco strings, synths, and communal vocals turn the return of the mojo into a full-blown rock ceremony.
