Fake Your Own Death – “Exit Wounds” | Wounds of light in a life desperate to escape

A sky crossed by wounds of light opens “Exit Wounds” and establishes the contradiction running through the song: even a rupture can become a possible way out. Fake Your Own Death looks at a life that no longer feels like its own, caught between routines, everyday consumption, relationships turning into systems of control, and an increasingly distorted perception of what once felt familiar.

The writing transforms ordinary objects into physical, unsettling images. Teeth, walls mistaken for skin, and memories of childhood beginning to break suggest that confinement does not remain outside the self; it eventually becomes part of the body and alters identity. The relationship is shaped by jealousy and competition, where the need to “win” becomes another form of captivity. Escape therefore means more than leaving a place behind. It means shedding an earlier version of yourself.

Dark Tension and Circular Motion

Moving through post-punk and dark indie rock, “Exit Wounds” draws its energy from a tension that never fully resolves. Nyles Lannon’s production, from Film School, provides an appropriate setting for that sense of disorientation, while the writing creates the impression of moving forward without necessarily finding an exit. There is movement, but also the possibility of ending up exactly where you started.

When Escape Means Breaking

The title becomes a central image: these “exit wounds” can be understood as openings carved into a closed reality. Light enters through the rupture, while also reminding us that every escape comes from some form of breaking. By turning domestic details into bodily imagery, Fake Your Own Death suggests that confinement can eventually live inside the person trying to leave it. Rebellion becomes intimate: reclaiming the body, perception, and the ability to choose.
