Matt C. White opens a new chapter of his solo career with Ursa, the first single from his upcoming album The Flood. Rather than relying on immediate impact, the Brooklyn-based songwriter builds a hypnotic piece around repetition, gradually expanding a motorik pulse, fuzz-drenched guitars and psychedelic echoes until they erupt into a powerful, abrasive finale. Inspired by the idea of an endless pursuit, Ursa uses mythological and cosmic imagery to reflect on memory, identity and the cycles that shape human existence. Hunters, stars and wounds merge into a symbolic landscape where survival becomes inseparable from self-discovery. The line “You can’t kill the soul with an arrow” captures the emotional core of the track, suggesting that while the body may be wounded, the essence of a person remains beyond the reach of violence.

Blending alternative rock with psychedelic rock, krautrock, garage rock and stoner rock, Ursa favors atmosphere over conventional song structure.
