The Canadian band previews its upcoming album with a song that blends skate punk, power pop and an honest look at growing older
Doghouse Rose returns with “Born To Break Even”, the title track and first preview of its upcoming album. Built upon more than a decade of touring, community building and relentless live performances, the single channels late-’90s skate punk energy while embracing the melodic sensibilities of artists such as NOFX, Blondie and The Muffs. The song transforms life’s frustrations into a celebration of resilience, reminding listeners that moving forward is often an act of quiet determination.
At the same time, “Born To Break Even” introduces a more vulnerable side of the band’s songwriting. Exploring themes of grief, depression, self-reflection and perseverance, the upcoming record expands upon Doghouse Rose’s long-standing ability to create songs that make outsiders feel at home. Through soaring harmonies, massive hooks and an enduring sense of community, the Toronto outfit reaffirms that punk rock remains a space where friendship and belonging still matter.
