Dan Webb – Hungry Ghosts | Turning displacement into a new way forward

Moving to a different city, country or environment often means much more than a physical relocation. It also involves leaving behind habits, references and previous versions of ourselves. Dan Webb takes that feeling as the foundation of “Hungry Ghosts”, an instrumental piece that treats movement as an opportunity to open new creative possibilities.

Inspired by his move from Australia to Singapore, the track uses that transition as a metaphor for adaptation. Rather than portraying uncertainty as a threat, it turns it into a source of curiosity and reinvention. The result is a listening experience that conveys a constant sense of discovery and forward motion.

An international gathering that expands the project

One of the track’s greatest strengths lies in the creative dialogue Dan Webb establishes with musicians and collaborators from different international scenes. The piece features Clive Deamer, known for his work with Radiohead and Portishead; Dennis Hamm, a longtime collaborator of Thundercat; and Bob Lanzetti, guitarist and member of Snarky Puppy. It also includes mastering by Joe Lambert, whose credits include Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Animal Collective. Together, these contributions add depth, dynamism and a remarkable sense of creative freedom that reinforces the project’s expansive character.

A celebration of unexpected beginnings

“Hungry Ghosts” stands out by reminding listeners that stepping away from comfort can also become an act of growth. Dan Webb creates a work that embraces transitional periods and understands uncertainty as a force capable of opening new personal and creative paths.
