The Brooklyn-based Brazilian artist previews his upcoming EP with a dream-pop reflection on belonging and ambition
Late Again returns with “If You Have A Bridge (I’m Buying),” the first single from his upcoming EP I Dreamt I Was Awake, due in September 2026. Written as an affectionate and surreal ode to New York City, the track captures the perspective of an immigrant who knowingly embraces unlikely dreams while navigating the realities of urban life. Through observational lyrics and understated humor, Rafael Melo reflects on belonging, aspiration, and the strange comfort of choosing hope despite uncertainty.
Blending dream-pop textures with Brazilian melodic influences, Japanese-inspired grooves, and cinematic production, the song expands the project’s distinctive cross-cultural identity. Accompanied by a visually ambitious video created with Gabriel Rollinos and filmed across all five boroughs of New York, “If You Have A Bridge (I’m Buying)” sets the tone for an EP that explores the space between clarity and self-deception, where nostalgia and possibility coexist.
