Reaching a waterfall after spending too much time trying to decide what you want can feel like an answer that requires no words. “Waterfall Song” begins with precisely that exhaustion: Marshall Thomas observes the fatigue of choosing, anticipating and responding to expectations before finding in moving water another way of relating to the present.
The song starts inside questions about what is wanted, what is needed and where to go next. Gradually, that search for answers shifts toward the body, energy and a more intuitive experience. The transformation also changes the narrator’s relationship with another person: deciding how someone else should behave gives way to allowing them to grow and be free.
