Los Angeles and New York appear in “LA to NY” not as opposing destinations, but as two coordinates within the same life. Harley DiNardo turns airports, highways, mountains and changing seasons into a journey through memory, while one question remains beneath every departure: how many places can become part of the meaning of home?

The song observes time through everything that changes: children growing up, faces aging and skylines becoming unfamiliar. The line “I was there when the skyline changed” introduces a particularly painful memory into that journey, connected to DiNardo’s experience at the World Trade Center the night before the September 11 attacks. The memory does not stop the song; it becomes part of a narrative that continues moving forward.

Organic rock for a story in motion

Guitars and real instruments support a garage rock and rock & roll approach. The production remains direct, allowing the instrumentation to accompany the narrative rather than overwhelm it. Classic rock, Britpop and the storytelling tradition of writers such as Tom Petty all inform the song’s perspective.

Two coordinates, one identity

Night flights, snow, autumn leaves, ocean air and California landscapes turn physical travel into a metaphor for a life shaped by change. “I’m in LA / I’m in New York” ultimately becomes a statement of multiple belonging: there is no need to choose one city when both have become part of the same story.
