a good year – “Back of a Car + Dealerz [Live from Spot Festival]” | Between the Urge to Escape and the Desire to Return

Two songs, two ways of confronting desire. Recorded live at Spot Festival, a good year brings “Back of a Car” and “Dealerz” together in a passage from physical urgency toward a more contemplative kind of melancholy. The first moves through the need to act, provoke, and escape; the second looks at what remains afterward, surrounded by memories, the possibility of forgiveness, and a relationship whose future still feels unresolved.

“I just wanna do it” turns the impulse at the heart of “Back of a Car” into something close to a mantra, while the car becomes a transitional space: moving somewhere else also means moving toward an emotional decision. “There’s something wrong, something right” keeps that tension deliberately open. “Dealerz” shifts the emotional pace. Stars, smoke-filled rooms, and the “endless road to nowhere” create a landscape where past and present overlap. “The rest is still unwritten” preserves the possibility of return, while the song also leaves room for moving forward without a destination.

Two Pulses for the Same Restlessness

Blending indietronica, indie rock, and alt-pop, the two tracks retain a melodic sensibility while exploring different intensities. “Back of a Car” relies on repetition and groove; “Dealerz” leans toward a more expansive atmosphere. The live setting heightens both approaches, turning repeated vocal phrases into points of direct connection with the audience.

Feeling What Still Remains

In “Back of a Car,” the car represents movement before something happens. In “Dealerz,” the road becomes a relationship whose destination remains uncertain. The repetition of “again” reveals a desire to recover something, while “I can feel what you say” turns communication into an almost physical experience before rejection enters the picture. Together, the songs leave one question suspended: keep moving forward, or try to return?
