A gentle breeze does not need to announce itself to alter a landscape, and “Zephyr” seems to approach music through a similar logic. Hilgrove Kenrick and Nick Norton-Smith continue the exploration begun with “Sylph” through a composition where ethnic-influenced flutes drift across layers of strings and electronics. Immersion and texture take precedence over immediate impact, allowing the piece to unfold gradually.
Its connection to spirits remains a point of departure, although “Zephyr” does not develop a specific narrative. Instead, its focus seems to be the creation of presence: a suspended space where acoustic and synthetic sounds remain in dialogue. The flutes provide the most recognizable melodic element, while electronic layers and resonances expand the perception of an environment difficult to place in any particular time or territory. Calmness therefore exists alongside something spectral, encouraging a more attentive kind of listening.
Flutes suspended over electronic layers
Sitting between experimental electronics and ambient, the piece incorporates elements associated with music from the Middle East and North Africa. Strings establish a broad, immersive foundation, while electronic textures expand the space surrounding the flutes. Layers, resonance and slow movement shape the production, bringing the track closer to sonic exploration than to a conventional song structure.
A breeze inside an abstract landscape
The title, associated with a gentle breeze, finds a sonic counterpart in the way the flutes seem to move across the underlying layers. Its continuity with “Sylph” reinforces the artists’ interest in ethereal figures and elusive presences. Without an explicit story to resolve, “Zephyr” finds its identity in suspension: a composition that turns prolonged listening into its primary form of movement.
