The Toronto punk quartet announce In The Hollow, their first album in five years, with a volatile single that turns attraction, resentment and self-sabotage into electric tension.
Bad Waitress share “Lovin’ Kind,” the first advance single from In The Hollow, their upcoming album arriving October 30, 2026 via Stomp Records. The track marks the Toronto quartet’s return after five years and pushes their punk energy into darker, stranger and more inward territory. Self-produced by the band and recorded with engineer Josh Korody at Toronto’s Wychwood Sound, the song takes the premise of a love song and makes it immediately uneasy, folding attraction, resentment, vulnerability and self-sabotage into the same space. Kali-Ann Butala, Katelyn Molgard, Moon and Nicole Cain create a constant tension between melody, abrasive guitars and a punishing rhythm section, while the vocals shift between confession and warning. The result is a song that approaches love with its guard up, leaving open the question of whether what is happening is romance, deliberate destruction or both at once.
That unease becomes a fitting entry point into In The Hollow, an album shaped by years of collective and personal isolation, as the band revisited memories and relationships from the uncomfortable perspective of having changed. The record expands its landscape beyond Toronto toward the Northwest Territories and Pacific Northwest, places connected to members of the band’s childhood, using forests, wilderness and mysticism to reflect the isolation and uncertainty running through the songs. Across the album, Bad Waitress examine changing relationships, identity, sexuality and the strange experience of encountering earlier versions of yourself from a distance. “Lovin’ Kind” distills that tension into just 2:26: a love song that reaches for closeness while keeping one hand ready for the door.
