A breakup does not always end when someone leaves; sometimes it survives in the question of what might have happened if things had been different. “She Could Be Waiting for You” places Shane Pendergast in that uncertain space, where regret exists alongside the possibility that something might still remain on the other side of the distance. The single, the first preview of Jack Pine, was written while Pendergast was reading Jack Kerouac’s On the Road, bringing a sense of movement and searching into the song’s narrative. Recorded live inside a rural church on Prince Edward Island, the track retains a warmth that gives every word room to resonate.
The story begins after a departure the narrator cannot fully explain: she was gone by morning, left no letter, and something in her heart seems to have changed. Rather than reconstructing exactly what happened, Pendergast focuses on what remains after the absence. The title becomes the question that keeps the story open: perhaps she has left, but perhaps she is still waiting somewhere. That possibility does not erase regret or the need to move forward; instead, it holds both emotions together, creating a familiar tension for anyone caught between closing a chapter and imagining another ending.
Maritime Folk with Earthy Warmth
The live recording inside a rural church preserves an organic performance, with instrumentation supporting the voice without taking attention away from the narrative. Prince Edward Island’s folk tradition adds the communal and storytelling quality that anchors the piece.
A Border Between the Past and Possibility
The red sky, tear, thorn, and border turn separation into a landscape of signs. That “other side” can be a physical place, but also the emotional distance created when a relationship becomes unfamiliar. The song never resolves that border; its strength comes from leaving it open.
