goodkitty – “The Right Kind” | Wanting Someone at the Wrong Time

goodkitty return with “The Right Kind”, a song that turns an impossible-to-ignore attraction into a sustained tension between desire and circumstance. The first preview of Katie Colt’s upcoming album, due in early 2027, finds two people fully aware that something exists between them while remaining trapped in relationships that make acting on it impossible. Colt’s piano establishes the song’s center of gravity, surrounded by an insistent bassline, nervous guitars, dramatic drums and layered backing vocals that expand the sense of anticipation. Her voice stands out for a restrained yet sensual expressiveness, conveying desire without losing the confidence of someone who knows exactly what she wants. Voice and music complement each other to create a cohesive and emotionally rich sound, while the rhythmic momentum keeps the track constantly moving. The result balances danceable rock energy with a tension that never fully resolves.

The song finds its conflict in the distance between what is felt and what can actually happen. The idea of “someday” becomes a promise that allows both characters to imagine a future together, but it also indefinitely extends a situation that currently exists only as possibility. The narrator does not hide her impatience: she provokes, insists and even considers the possibility of the other person leaving their current relationship. That attitude introduces an uncomfortable moral dimension that makes the desire feel more human and less idealized. “The Right Kind” does not present love as romantic certainty, but as a possibility caught at the wrong moment. Moving between indie rock, alternative rock and indie pop, the production uses the rhythm section to mirror that restlessness: the bass keeps pushing forward, the drums heighten the drama and the guitars add a slightly uneasy energy. The piano, meanwhile, keeps the composition grounded in intimacy. The song is about waiting, yet musically it seems incapable of standing still. That tension is central to its appeal: finding the right person does not necessarily mean finding the right time.

Rock for a Story That Cannot Stand Still

The track combines indie rock, alternative rock and indie pop, with piano at the forefront, nervous guitars, an insistent bassline and highly dramatic drums. Backing vocals expand the emotional space without sacrificing intimacy.

The Wrong Moment

The idea of “someday” keeps the possibility of a future relationship alive, while the present remains complicated by other relationships. Desire becomes a mixture of waiting, provocation and fantasy.
