Tess Clare – “Not Here For You” | Indie Pop Beyond Romantic Idealization

“Not Here For You” finds Tess Clare at one of the most decisive points of Diva 98, her debut album. The song turns the exhaustion of idealizing relationships and seeking approval into a statement of independence. Within the album’s cinematic, theatrical indie pop world, Clare pushes that confession toward a more defiant space shaped by synthpop and synthwave. The narrator does not try to resolve her contradictions; she recognizes them and chooses to stop repeating them.

The lyrics focus on the habit of building imaginary versions of the people she is attracted to.
