Andy Jans-Brown has announced Airport Departure Lounge, his fifth studio album and a cinematic indie rock work that explores heartbreak, memory and the feeling of living in a constant state of suspension. Created alongside longtime collaborator Cameron Spike-Porter, the record uses the modern airport terminal as a central metaphor, transforming delayed flights, missed connections and waiting rooms into symbols of a society navigating uncertainty and change. Blending intimate songwriting with expansive arrangements, the album reflects on what it means to exist between departure and arrival.
While heartbreak provides the emotional starting point, the album quickly expands into broader themes of identity, political anxiety and cultural disillusionment. Tracks such as “Growing Pains”, “Sunset or Sunrise” and “Radio Song” examine the shifting nature of truth, belonging and personal transformation, balancing introspective storytelling with widescreen indie rock textures. Drawing comparisons to artists like The National, The War on Drugs and Bruce Springsteen, Airport Departure Lounge presents a deeply human portrait of life lived in transition.
