Interview | “MS. SEROTONIN”: The Song That Opens a New Creative Chapter for Peder Elias

An Idea Born from Instinct

With “MS. SEROTONIN,” Peder Elias offers the first glimpse into a new artistic chapter. The single retains the emotional honesty that has defined much of his music while embracing a brighter, more energetic, and carefree identity. The result is a song that touches on themes of emotional well-being without losing its infectious pop appeal.

Interestingly, the concept behind the track emerged in a spontaneous way during a songwriting session with Ryan Bickley, Alex Charles, and Freedo. “We started writing lyrics like ‘where u at’ and ‘hell n back’ purely based on the vibe and what felt good to sing,” Elias recalls. It was during that process that the word serotonin entered the conversation, immediately capturing the group’s attention, even if it initially felt a little too heavy for such an uplifting song.

“We felt that saying ‘looking for serotonin’ sounded almost too deep or sad for a track that feels so fun and good,” he explains. The solution came when he suggested a more playful approach: “I proposed talking about serotonin as if it were a girl, and everyone loved the idea.”

Experimenting to Find a New Identity

Beyond its lyrical concept, “MS. SEROTONIN” marks an important moment in Elias’ artistic evolution. Throughout the creative process, he and his collaborators explored different sounds until they found a direction that felt both exciting and fresh.

“When we finished it, it felt like the perfect sonic world to build my next album around—a new chapter, a new era,” he says. The song was written during a songwriting camp in a cabin in Norway, an experience that also shaped its atmosphere. “It was incredibly inspiring to write surrounded by such an amazing view,” Elias shares. He also highlights the collective energy of the experience: “Everyone was so excited to be there, and I think you can hear that excitement in the song.”

From the Studio to the Stage

Following the release of “MS. SEROTONIN,” Elias had the opportunity to bring the song to audiences across Asia, where listeners warmly embraced this new side of his sound. While he admits feeling uncertain about introducing a track that differed from some of his previous work, the response quickly reassured him.

“I was a little nervous because the song is somewhat different from what I’ve done before,” he says. Those concerns soon faded once he saw audiences connecting with the single. “Honestly, it feels like people enjoy it just as much as I do. It’s such a fun song to play live.”

The experience confirmed that the bright and uplifting spirit of “MS. SEROTONIN” resonates just as strongly on stage as it does on record.

A Message for Latin America

As he continues developing this new era, Elias is also looking toward Latin America. “I dream every day about traveling more through South America and creating memories with people through music,” he shares. From what he has already experienced, one thing stands out: “The energy there is amazing.”

For now, “MS. SEROTONIN” serves as the introduction to a new chapter defined by sonic exploration, optimism, and a desire to connect with listeners in new and meaningful ways. As Peder Elias continues shaping the next phase of his career, the single offers an exciting glimpse into the sound and spirit that will guide what comes next.
