The tribute album reimagines the Irish songwriter’s catalog while supporting charitable causes
20th Century Paddy – The Songs of Shane MacGowan has unveiled its full lineup, assembling an extraordinary cast of artists to celebrate the legacy of one of Ireland’s most influential songwriters. Curated by Victoria Mary Clarke and Rubyworks, the collection features contributions from U2, Bruce Springsteen, Hozier, Tom Waits, The Libertines, Primal Scream, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and Bob Geldof, among many others. Scheduled for release on November 13, 2026, the project takes its title from a concept MacGowan himself had envisioned during his lifetime.
Spanning the breadth of MacGowan’s songwriting career, the album revisits landmark compositions through fresh interpretations from artists connected to his influence and musical spirit. Highlights include Bruce Springsteen’s take on “A Rainy Night in Soho,” Hozier and Jessie Buckley’s rendition of “Fairytale of New York,” U2’s version of “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah,” and Tom Waits performing “Summer In Siam.” In keeping with MacGowan’s long-standing social values, at least 50% of participating artist royalties will be donated to Dublin Simon Community, supporting people experiencing homelessness.
