The narrative emerged from a walk along the San Francisco Bay interrupted by the sight of a refinery burning in the distance, using fire, smoke, and polluted landscapes as a contrast to an intimate conversation about love and the possibility of having children. “Next of Kin” explores the tension between fear of the future and the need to keep believing in human connection, transforming anxiety, tenderness, and nostalgia into a delicate, expansive, and deeply human sonic experience.
