Longing Louisa – Hatchet: A Dream Pop Plea for Reconciliation (Finland)

The Finnish project Longing Louisa shares the single «Hatchet,» the focus track from their debut album Waterphile. This project is the alternate facet of Finnish artist Reetta Hotti. The song addresses the desire to «bury the hatchet,» meaning to heal an unresolved emotional conflict, exploring themes of forgiveness, reconciliation, and the longing to be able to look the other person in the eye without fear. The repetition of phrases like «You don’t remember a thing» creates an emotional echo that reflects confusion, pain, and a deep process of self-exploration.
Musically, it unfolds within a universe of atmospheric indie pop and minimalist dream pop, with layers of melodic synthesizers and a gentle rhythm that wraps the voice in an ethereal aura. The production opts for a light, almost playful sound, yet one that is emotionally deep, creating the contrast that Reetta identifies as the very essence of the track.
Reetta Hotti, under her project Longing Louisa, creates atmospheric and melancholic music exploring longing and the fascination with water. Her debut album Waterphile is described as an “ode to water,” blending emotive vocals, synths, and acoustic elements.
