Longing Louisa’s «Waterphile»: An Indie Folk Mermaid Tale in Blue Tones (Finland)

The Finnish project Longing Louisa shares the single «Waterphile,» a deep, expansive, and emotive musical experience born from styles like indie folk and dream pop. It builds an immersive sound with synthesizers, samples, and acoustic piano, creating a «blue-toned,» hazy atmosphere with moments of gradual intensity.
This musical universe shelters and fuels a reflection on the relationship with water, both literally and symbolically. Reetta describes the piece as a kind of «reverse mermaid tale» and draws inspiration from the idea of attraction to water (the concept of hydrophile). The track also reflects melancholy and constant longing, capturing the sensation of living between the past, the future, or alternative realities.
Reetta Hotti, under her project Longing Louisa, creates atmospheric and melancholic music exploring longing and the fascination with water. Her debut album Waterphile is described as an “ode to water,” blending emotive vocals, synths, and acoustic elements.
