Esta canción toca muchas áreas distintas de mi vida, en particular mis años como adolescente. Me hicieron bullying cuando tenía quince y, a raíz de eso, fui a terapia por primera vez. La canción aborda experiencias que viví en sesiones de terapia, que a veces me dejaban sintiéndome peor que antes de entrar.La primera parte de ‘Getting Old’ habla de mi resistencia a expresar lo que sentía en ese momento. Luego, la canción transiciona desde no saber qué decir hasta llegar a comprender por mí misma cómo me sentía en ese estado mental. Recuerdo que me resultaba más fácil sentirme enojada y sola que intentar escuchar los consejos que me daban. Esta canción captura partes de cómo era mi mente a los quince. Creo que escribirla años después me ayudó a reconocer ese periodo sin sentirme siempre mal al respecto. «I wrote ‘Getting Old’ when I had just turned seventeen. Despite the name of the song, growing up is only a part of what it’s about. This song touches on a lot of different areas of my life, specifically years as a young teenager. I was bullied at the age of fifteen and subsequently, went to therapy for the first time because of it. The song touches on experiences I had in therapy sessions that would leave me feeling worse when I walked out of them. The first bit of ‘Getting Old’ talks about my reluctance to speak about how I felt at the time. The song kind of transitions from me not knowing what to say to me making my own mind up about how I felt in that mindset. I remember it was easier for me to feel angry and alone then it was to just try and listen to the advice that was given to me. This song captures parts of what it was like in my head at fifteen. I think writing this song years after I was in it helped me acknowledge that time without always feeling bad about it. It was definitely good for me to turn that experience it into something that can be heard by more than just my therapist.» Rowan Murphy
