Yttling Jazz reinventa ‘The Gambler’ con versión jazz íntima y frágil (Suecia)

El músico sueco Yttling Jazz presenta su remix de «The Gambler» (original de Abstract Crimewave y Lykke Li). Esta versión destaca por transformar la personalidad original en algo profundo, discreto y frágil, alejándose del sonido pop edificante pero sumando carga emotiva desde las posibilidades del jazz.

El vibráfono adquiere protagonismo, potenciando la profundidad y brillo de la voz, que sigue siendo central pero crece gracias a la experimentación jazzística. Una fascinante reinvención que explora el pop desde el jazz sin perder identidad.

“Fue muy interesante hacer esta versión. En parte porque es una canción en la que participé originalmente como compositor, pero también porque decidí hacer una versión jazz. Como todos sabemos, mezclar jazz y pop puede dar resultados realmente, realmente terribles, ¡pero esta vez tuvimos suerte! Es interesante cómo la hermosa voz de Lykke realmente resalta en este entorno más acústico.”

Yttling coescribió y produjo a Lykke Li en sus tres primeros álbumes y en su aclamado quinto álbum, lanzado en 2022. Actualmente, trabajan juntos en nueva música de Lykke Li. Ha colaborado con otros artistas como First Aid Kit, Robyn, Tom Odell, Kygo, Franz Ferdinand, Primal Scream, Weezer, David Lynch, The Hives, Sarah Blasko, Neko Case, Chrissie Hynde, Shout Out Louds, Anna Ternheim y muchos otros, pero pocos saben que también es un músico de jazz formado. De joven, asistió a una de las mejores escuelas de jazz de Suecia. Björn incluso tomaba el tren a Estocolmo todas las semanas para recibir clases particulares del difunto gran legendario Esbjörn Svensson. Yttling Jazz lanzó un álbum hace veinte años, Oh Lord Why Can’t I Keep My Big Mouth Shut (2005), y ahora por fin se prepara para nueva música.

Yttling Jazz Reimagines ‘The Gambler’ as Intimate Jazz Exploration (Sweden)

Swedish musician Yttling Jazz presents his remix of «The Gambler» (originally by Abstract Crimewave and Lykke Li). This version shines by transforming the song’s original personality into something deep, discreet, and fragile – moving away from the uplifting pop sound of the original while adding emotional depth through jazz possibilities.

The vibraphone takes center stage, enhancing and sheltering the vocal performance’s depth and brilliance. While the vocals remain the protagonist, they grow through jazz experimentation. This is a fascinating way to explore pop through jazz without losing its personality or spark.

«It was really interesting making this remix version of the song. Partly because it’s a song I was originally part of writing, but also because I decided to make a jazz version of it. As we all know, mixing jazz and pop can result in very, very dreadful results, but this time we got lucky! Interesting how Lykke’s beautiful vocals really pop out in this more acoustic environment.”

Yttling co-wrote and produced Lykke Li across her first three albums and on her acclaimed fifth album that was released 2022. They are currently working together on new Lykke Li music. Some other artists he has worked with are First Aid Kit, Robyn, Tom Odell, Kygo, Franz Ferdinand, Primal Scream, Weezer, David Lynch, The Hives, Sarah Blasko, Neko Case, Chrissie Hynde, Shout Out Louds, Anna Ternheim and many others, but very few people know that he is also a schooled jazz musician. As a youngster he went to one of the finest jazz schools in Sweden. Björn even took the train to Stockholm every week to get private lessons from the late great legend Esbjörn Svensson. Yttling Jazz has released one previous album twenty years ago Oh Lord Why Can’t I Keep My Big Mouth Shut (2005) and is now finally gearing up for new music.
