Escribí Texas después de un viaje con amigos a Austin, Texas, en el otoño de 2024. Siempre me ha resultado difícil relajarme, creo que siempre me he presionado mucho, lo que me ha ayudado a impulsarme hacia adelante en mi carrera, pero también ha significado que a veces me ha costado disfrutar realmente el momento. ‘Texas’ fue mi antídoto contra esto, mi declaración de intenciones para mí mismo. Soy yo diciendo «Hay un momento y un lugar para presionarme, para trabajar duro, y hay un momento para disfrutar y asimilar lo que me rodea en este momento. Para disfrutar de la compañía de las personas que me importan».

I wrote Texas after a trip with friends to Austin, Texas in autumn 2024. I’ve always found it hard to relax, I think I’ve always put a huge amount of pressure on myself, which has helped to propel me forward in my career, but has also meant I’ve struggled to really enjoy the moment sometimes. ‘Texas’ was my antidote to this, my statement of intent to myself. It’s me saying «There’s a time and a place to pressure myself, to work hard, and there’s a time to enjoy and take in what’s around me right now. To enjoy the company of the people I care about».
With warm vocals, high-energy saxophone and hypnotic guitar playing, Kaidi Akinnibi is fast becoming one of the brightest shining stars in the contemporary UK Jazz firmament.
